This best selling book differs from the myriad of other sight singing books in that it develops the ability to identify and name all twelve pitches within a key center. Through this method a student gains the ability to identify sound based on it's relationship to a key and not the relationship of one note to another i.e. interval training as commonly taught in many texts. All note groupings from one to six notes are presented giving the student a thesaurus of basic note combinations which develops sight singing and note recognition to a level unattainable before this Guide's existence. This ebook is a must own for anyone serious about developing their ability to improvise and compose. Written in standard notation (no TAB). 108 pages.

KEY NOTE RECOGNITION - EBOOK/PDF VERSION

To play 'by ear' a musician must first sense the key a chord or chord progression is in. You must also be able to sense key modulations in order to follow chord progressions that change key. The exercise found in this book is crucial to developing these skills.

Imagine being able to know the key of what you are hearing by just playing one note on your instrument. Think about the power this gives you to follow unfamiliar chord changes and get a quick sense of where keys are changing. This is the first step in developing the ability to follow complicated chord changes or to make informed scale choices when playing over a chord progression.

More importantly, developing the skills found in this book allows you to organize and remember sound based on how you hear it, not on how you consciously think about it. It will move you away from remembering sound based on non-musical distinctions such as instrument fingerings, and toward remembering and organizing sound based on how you hear it. Ultimately, this brings you closer to a deeper understanding of music and you will be able to store and retrieve music in your mind from a much more musical place. Written in standard notation (no TAB). 36 pages.

In order to be prepared to read through any piece of music, the serious musician must be able to recognize, read and play rhythms fluidly. Unlike other books of this kind, the exercises given contain complex syncopations which approximate the experience of reading through a sophisticated jazz composition or a contemporary classical piece. This book will prepare the serious musician for a life of sight-reading rhythmically complex charts. This book applies both eighth and sixteenth note rhythms to odd meter combinations. All examples use one pitch, allowing the student to focus completely on time and rhythm on the instrument of their choice. Midi files of all exercises are included which will facilitate correct practice, enhance clarity, and aid internalization. The One Minute Lesson" covers many of the topics I commonly discuss with my private students. This sometimes happens because a student asks me about a certain subject but more often its because I hear a skill that is lacking in their musicianship. The One Minute Lesson is not meant to be an exhaustive study of any particular subject rather it is a glimpse into one subject that is sometimes small, sometimes big but always important. At the outset you should realize that some of these "One Minute Lessons" have much more content than others. This variance in the amount of material supplied in a "One Minute Lesson" is usually caused by the subject presented. Sometimes specific exercises with MP3s and Midifiles can be supplied to help a student master a particular subject but other times it might just be a lesson where I'm nudging a student to help them keep something important in mind or refine their understanding of something they might know but not completely understand. In general I think these "One Minute Lessons" should be watched every few years as you develop your musical skills because different subjects will become important to your development at different times.
