There are a few things that you will need to get through this book. First is the ability to read Bass clef. If reading is an area in which you need improvement, consider this: there are only 5 different notes in a pentatonic scale. In the back of the book you’ll find a fretboard diagram of all the notes on the bass. You only have to concentrate on 5 notes at a time as you progress through the keys.

Along with being able to read notation, you will need to know the location of all the notes on the fretboard. !is is not as daunting as it may sound because, again, you only have to concentrate on 5 notes at a time. Fortunately, as the exercises and melodic ideas progress through the cycle of 4ths, you only have to learn one new note for each key after C Major/A Minor. The catch is that most of those notes can be played in more than location on the neck.

Pentatonics On Electric Bass was written to provide a focused and musically satisfying approach for electric bassists to learn the major and minor pentatonic scales in all 12 keys. The main goal of this book is to introduce, reinforce, and provide musical applications of the major and minor pentatonic scale from an electric bassist’s perspective.
