BOOK PREFACE
The purpose to familiarize the musician interested in salsa or Latin jazz with:

Sight reading salsa/Latin jazz arrangements,
Understanding the format of the 'mambo' section,
Recognizing similar musical situations within a salsa or Latin Jazz group,
Playing within the context of a section.

The author also hopes that this book may inspire and motivate musicians to find enjoyment in the rhythms of salsa and Latin jazz regardless of their level of experience or previous exposure to these styles.

This book will serve as a tremendous help in developing the musicians understanding of how to play the section of a salsa or Latin jazz arrangement known as the 'mambo' section. The combination of two trumpets, trombone, tenor sax, bass, and chord symbols provide the ideal sonority for complete understanding of this section. Various tonalities, sight reading and melodic, rhythmic, and harmonic concepts are but a part of the vantages to be gleaned from playing these fascinating, free, passion filled rhythms.
