Great book for us beginners! (12/30/2008)
I purchased Bass Guitar for Dummies in hopes of expanding my skills with my bass. It met and exceeded expectations! The book is clear, concise and has given me some great (and practical) insights on how to build grooves and work with scales. The CD is a great help to guide the reader through how the exercises should sound, and when I use it with my Tascam bass trainer I can loop the exercises and change tempo to really make the most of the tracks. Hats off to Patrick for a great book. This beginner is sold!

best book (10/13/2005)
this is the best book in the history of bass guitar books. I started the bass guitar when I was 10, along with playing the viola. Having lessons in viola, I wanted to have bass be a low-commitment thing. I bought 2 purchaces when I first started- a bass guitar and the bass guitar for dummies book. I practiced every day for 10 minutes out of the book, and in a month, I was able to play a lot of songs that I listen to on my iPod. The cd was very helpful, and the book was perfect for my ability. Now, 6 months later, I am in a band that preforms at resterants. This book was perfect for me and my scheduale. 5 star best book ever.

Great - Beginner, Pro (5/21/2005)
This is an excellent book to keep on hand. After playing for 30 years, I learned quite a lot and also ealized that I had developed bad habits including fingering and hand shifting. The CD is excellent with a count off before each track.

I have been enjoying the book as a beginner for the last year. I had to black out the demeaning title.

Bass Guitar for Dummies (8/8/2004)
Even though I have been playing bass for a few years now, I found this book very helpful. I would highly recommend this for any beginning bassist and a good refresher for veteran bassists as well. The tear out card in the front alone is extremely good refresher, I always make sure it is in my gig bag.

Don't Let the Title Fool You. (6/16/2004)
I'll admit, I was a bit sceptical when I saw that the bass was getting a 'For Dummies' treatment. However, after looking through this book I was quite impressed. This is actually a well put together and informative book for any new bass player..and even for some not so new bass players. Of course, it doesn't dive too heavily into any one topic...but as an overview and a starting point it really is a nice book. Once again, don't be put off by the title, this is a really nice book that I have no trouble recommending to any new students I have.
