Diamond in the rough (8/31/2010)
This book is a sleeper. It does not have a ton of text and cute pictures. What it has are real-world exercises to take the fear out of playing fretless bass. Initial exercises have you play the 5th “fret” notes against open strings, or playing I IV V on each string starting with root on an open string. Later exercises are standard I IV V blues walking bass lines. It also has some standard Rock bass lines. Practicing these standard bass lines along with the CD is a good way to internalize your intonation. Of course, transcribe some of the lines to other keys. There is a wealth of knowledge in this book.

Unappreciated (5/19/2009)
I am writing this review just to compensate for the lousy rating it has. It is meant to be a simple exercise book. I like it for that and it is small. Great for going from sax to fretless acoustic.

Not at all useful (6/8/2006)
I thought this book would help me train my technique to develop better fretless licks. After playing and reviewing most of the material I found the exercises seriously lacking. Perhaps incorporating these exercises into a walking bass system would help gel what your trying to learn.

Misleading (5/16/2005)
There isn't any discussion about the techniques involved in playing fretless in this book. Plus the CD does not have a count off to the beginning of lessons. They just start and you have to try to catch up. I am disappointed
