well i have finale...therefor why not save your money and write out your own patterns to practice....its a waste of a product if it dont stand alone

I don't agree with the first review for this book. I think the cd isn't really necessary. For those of you who need a source to see if you are right or wrong I suggest you purchase either the cibelius program or the finale program where you can enter the actual rhythms and hear it played back for you. This is by far the best way cause it deals with visual as well aural and it gives you a better sense of the excercises. If you play these with a metronome you should have no issues. I bascially draw 4 dots under the staff, each dot representing a beat per measure. remember that the downbeat gets the click. You can take it from there. I hope this helps a little. Every musician should have this book. It will help you on your reading and helps establish a great sense of time.

I cannot believe that in this day and age of book and cd's that this one has got no cd with it! This is unforgivable as one at times need to hear the more complex patterns etc, in order to make sure that they are being played correctly! A ridiculous oversight. I returned mine to the shop and got a refund. I would have otherwise kept it. Those 'nerds' have still not realised that there are people out there that need the accompnaying cd!!!
