ESSENTIAL SECRETS
Here's the latest in a series of free tips from performance coach/bassist David Motto and his ebook, THE 10-MINUTE BASS VIRTUOSO: An Insider's Guide to Transforming Your Bass Playing in Ten Minutes a Day.

THE TEN MINUTE BASS VIRTUOSO
SECRET 67:
PUT YOUR PRACTICING FIRST

Prioritizing What's Important to You

If your life is busy, you may find it challenging to "fit in" your bass playing. Day after day, practicing can take a back seat to other tasks: paying bills, running errands, and everything else you have to do.

Here's the solution: Practice first.

That's right. Do your practicing before any of your other activities. When you do, something miraculous happens. You still have time to finish everything else on your to-do list, and you played the bass! That's much better than skipping your music to do the more mundane things in life.

For some people, this means practicing first thing in the morning.

SECRET 68:
PRACTICE TODAY

Why Today Is All That Really Matters

This secret is a variation of the first strategy in this book, “Practice Every Day.” And, it’s a very important variation. Here’s why:

Even though musicians know they'll benefit from daily practicing, very few people actually do it. There are many reasons for not practicing every day. People are busy. (Of course you’re busy. That’s why you’re reading this book.) Getting a practice session started can be difficult—even though you could complete your ten minutes for today in the time you’re worrying about whether you can practice. And, some days, you’re nowhere near your bass.

There are also subtle, psychological barriers that stop many people from practicing daily.
