QUOTE - UNQUOTE
"If you ever feel that you've 'done it' and don't need to practice any more, I suggest you take up something else."
Performance coach/bassist David Motto offers free tips from his ebook, THE TEN-MINUTE BASS VIRTUOSO.
SHOW SOME EMOTION
Putting Feelings into the Notes
Having an emotional roadmap for a piece of music makes performing more satisfying and communicates the true meaning of the music to your audience. But, many bassists don’t know how to convey emotions in their playing. This strategy focuses on rapidly developing this skill.
Try this exercise:
Play a one octave major scale many times. Each time you play the scale, convey a different emotion with the sound you produce.
EXPAND YOUR CONCENTRATION
Being Aware of Every Detail of Your Playing
Achieving an elevated level of concentration while you practice is essential to your success as a bassist. When you are incredibly attentive, you learn more quickly, remember more, and play better than ever.
One area of concentration is simple: Making sure you’re actually doing what you’re supposed to be doing. If today’s goal is learning the third section of your song, then you must concentrate on that third section. Tear it apart note by note. Go slowly and work out all the details.
