QUOTE - UNQUOTE
"Your attitude represents the sum total of your thoughts and feelings. As a bassist, your success will equal your attitude."
Performance coach/bassist David Motto offers free tips to help any bass player improve and grow.
This critical guidance is from his excellent ebook, THE TEN-MINUTE BASS VIRTUOSO.
UNDERSTAND YOUR NERVOUS CYCLES
Taking Control of Your Feelings
Some musicians are lucky. They never get nervous before a performance. Everyone else needs to understand their nervous cycles.
First off, know that you are nervous because playing bass is important to you. You care so much about your music that you’re worried about making it sound just right. Consider yourself lucky. Many people have nothing they are passionate about.
Second, learn how your nerves affect you physically.
DECIDE ON A DEADLINE
Focusing as if Your Life Depended on It
It’s one thing to say you’re going to learn a new song. It’s entirely different to say you’re going to learn it in three weeks. Having a deadline changes your behavior, alters your thinking, and focuses your bass playing.
Without a deadline, you can fall victim to Parkinson’s Law: “Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.” Translation? It could take you forever to master the music. So, set a deadline right now.
The best type of deadline is a performance or audition.
