NEW TRANSCRIPTION EBOOK FROM AIDAN HAMPSON: INCUBUS

These California rockers defy categorization, incorporating a broad range of musical influences into the eclectic Incubus sound.

Guitarist Mike Einziger noted this diversity is "our greatest asset and our biggest flaw. We don't fit anywhere and we never have. We were never punk rock enough for the Warped Tour, we were never metal enough for Ozzfest, we were never quite indie rock or cool enough for "Lollapalooza."

This collection pulls together the bass lines for all 12 songs on their 1997 breakout album, S.C.I.E.N.C.E. The lines were played by original bassist Dirk Lance.

QUOTE - UNQUOTE

"If I was told I had to choose between being a studio or a live musician for the rest of my life, I'd choose live. A lot of guys I know are profoundly anal retentive; they love to sit in the studio and craft a part and aren't comfortable going out and throwing their asses on the line and saying, 'This is it!' You know, you get that one shot at playing something and making it great."
--Leland Sklar

ESSENTIAL SECRETS

Performance coach/bassist David Motto offers free tips to help any bass player improve and grow.

This critical guidance is from his excellent ebook, THE TEN-MINUTE BASS VIRTUOSO.

SECRET 77:
HAVE FUN

Enjoying What You're Doing

Mastering the technical demands of the bass, learning challenging music, and having the discipline to practice every day require work, dedication, and perseverance. And, you may have to give up other activities to make time for bass.

However, if practicing feels like drudgery, something is wrong. Playing bass should be fun.

One element of having fun is realizing that, out of all the activities you could take part in, you have chosen to play bass. Think about that for a minute. You have countless other ways you could spend your time. Something has made you decide to be a bass player. Make sure you’re enjoying this time!

SECRET 78:
VISUALIZE THE PERFORMANCE

How to Feel Completely At Ease on Stage

Visualization is the process of seeing and feeling what a situation will be like before you’re actually in that situation. An earlier secret, Practice Without Your Bass, discusses using visualization to learn music more quickly and to practice anywhere at any time. Successful bassists also utilize visualization to improve upcoming performances.

This is how it works:

Begin by picturing yourself on stage playing a concert. First, focus on your senses. Pay attention to what you see and hear from the stage. Acknowledge the other musicians. Notice the audience, the lighting, and the temperature. Feel yourself holding your bass.
