THE MOST INFLUENTIAL OF ALL: JAMES JAMERSON

JAMES JAMERSON

The folks at Wikipedia hit the basics: "James Lee Jamerson (1936-1983) was an American bass player. He was the uncredited bassist on most of the Motown Records hits in the 1960s . . . and is now regarded as one of the most influential bass players in modern music history.

"He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. As a session musician he played on 23 Billboard Hot 100 number-one hits, as well as 56 R&B number-one hits."

The accolades are everywhere. In its special article The 100 Best Bass Players of All Time Bass Player magazine ranked Jamerson number one, and the most influential bass guitarist. And Rolling Stone named Jamerson number one on its list of the 50 Greatest Bassists of All Time.

Some serious talent. You're probably playing a lot of Jamerson lines already. Studying what he did with them will only make you better.
