This is actually a well put together book in the sense that it sticks to business-- no boring joke cracking. It's great for beginners, but I get the impression the intermediate student could gain something as well. In addition to learning the notes on the staff and fretboard, a solid set of studies is included for 8th & 16th note rhythms. Chapter 9 gives an interesting look at fretboard positions that I've never seen before (4,5, & 6 string diagrams), and the method closes out by helping you learn how to play from charts w/chord symbols. Another good sign is that i haven't found any major typos which could be confusing.
The student should gain in playing ability and knowledge as long as it is approached seriously and diligently.
I rate it a 4 only because I'm only half-way through the book. So far, so good.
